GEOPHYSICS FIELD SCHOOL The field portion of Geophysics Field School is scheduled for August 28 to September 8, 2006 The class will be divided into two groups, designated as follows:
Everyone will meet in ES 149 at 8:30 am on Monday, August 28 for general meeting and safety briefing. After this, the two groups will operate independently. SEISMIC, MAGNETICS and GRAVITY
COMPONENT: Dr. R. Stewart. Additional info: 220-3265; stewart@ucalgary.ca This section of Field School will be based at the Castle Mountain Ski Resort in Southern Alberta. Both groups will each spend 4 days at this location. The program will involve some high resolution work at the resort, reflection seismic profiling, magnetic surveys and possibly gravity surveys. Transportation will be provided and accommodation will be at the hostel at the Castle Mountain ski resort. We have negotiated a full meals package with the hostel, except lunch on the first day for each group. The total accommodation and meal cost for each student will be $45 per day, plus taxes ($180 + taxes per person for the 4-day program). Payment must be made directly to the Castle Mountain Resort by each student, so bring cash or a credit card. If anybody has particular food allergies etc., please let Dr. Stewart know in advance (220-3265). There is a pay-phone available at the hostel but the resort is out of cell-phone coverage. Items that you need to bring include: • Sturdy footwear (boots, no sandals) Group 1: Monday, August 28 – Friday, September 1 Meet in ES 149, Earth Science Building,

J.M. Maillol* Additional info: 220-8393, maillol@ucalgary.ca This section of the Field School will be based in Calgary and operate day trips within or in the vicinity of the city. Students assigned to this section should be in lot 20 every morning at 8:30am (except Aug. 28, see above). The group will be assigned to different field methods each morning. Students need to bring a lunch and will come back to Calgary every evening. They should be prepared for weather of all kinds and generally be equipped with the same items as required in the Seismic Section (see above).
